Krav Maga is a self defense system that has drawn upon multiple disciplines with the goal of distilling the most effective and easily adapted techniques into one curriculum. Essentially, it is the original mixed martial art, predominantly combining elements from boxing, jiu-jitsu, muay thai, kenpo, and wrestling.
Physically, it focuses on simple gross motor skills that can be applied across varied attacks such as punches, grabs, bear hugs, chokes, weapon threats and ground defenses.
Mentally, it focuses on honing the ability to react under the stress and shock of a violent encounter.
Aegis, pronounced ay-jis or ee-jis, is a shield. It denotes both protection and defense.
The shield walls were simplistically brilliant, every fighter's shield protected the warrior on the left, allowing that warrior to attack with the spear or sword in their right hand.
We chose the name because when you ask people why they want to learn Krav Maga, at the root everyone has the same answer; they want to protect others, and defend themselves. They want to be a living Aegis.
